Coors Field in Denver Colorado completely caught me off guard by just how cool the scenery and the stadium are. Located in the heart of Denver, and set with a backdrop of the Rocky Mountains is one of the coolest sights in all of Major League Baseball. Whenever the Rockies are home, you bet there will be a sea of purple in the streets as the city of Denver loves their teams and especially the Rockies.

Located right in the heart of lower downtown (LoDo)/Ballpark Neighborhood of Denver, Coors Field is within walking distance from most of the downtown area, and public transportation is accessible and takes you right to the field.

Denver is one the best cities that I have been to for public transportation, walking and biking paths that can lead you to anywhere within the city. For the most part, when visiting Denver for a game or really any occasion, you will probably be staying somewhere near the downtown area. Make some time to get to the field and use the walking paths or the tram that drops you off at Union Station right outside of the stadium.

Coors Field Parking

The stadium does have paid parking structures next to and connected to the stadium. However, just around every corner and turn are parking lots and parking garages for you to park for the game. So if parking at the stadium is not your thing, don’t worry there’s plenty of parking available nearby.

You could also purchase paid stadium parking passes in advance online or at the ticket booths right at Coors Field.

What To Do Around the Ballpark

Denvers lower downtown and ballpark neighborhood are filled with venues for fans to enjoy pregame and post game festivities. Most of what is comprised of the neighborhood is bars and restaurants, but there are plenty of options.

Some local favorites for fans are ViewHouse Eatery & Bar, Jackson’s LODO, Sports Column, and Breckenridge Colorado Craft . These bars are typically filled in the hours leading up to and after a Rockies game. For those not super interested in hitting some of the towns bar scenes before the game, don’t worry there are other options as well.

Located less than a block from the stadium is the National Ballpark Museum. The museum is a culmination of the founders love for baseball and in particular baseball stadiums. This is a great sport to take kids or those. that love the history of the game and in particular the history of ballparks across the country.

Also near that stadium is Denvers famous 16th Street Mall. This mile-long path with over 50 restaurant patios, is a great stop on the way to and from the stadium.

History of Coors Field

The Rockies began play in 1993 as a new MLB expansion team. The first two seasons were spent playing at Mile High Field ( home of the Denver Broncos) while Coors Field was being constructed. Officially opened for the 1995 season, Coors Field is arguably the most hitter friendly park in all of Major League Baseball due to the high altitude and wind conditions of the city.

During the stadiums initial construction, Coors Field was designed to hold about 43,000 fans, but during the teams first season at Mile High, the team drew 4.5 million fans which was the most in baseball history. The upper deck and center field pavilion were added to make room for the influx of passionate Colorado fans ready to watch the Rockies play.

Memorable Moments at Coors Field

The first game played at Coors Field was on April 26, 1995 with the Rockies topping the New York Mets with a score of 11-9. The park hosted the 1998 and 2021 MLB All Star Games which saw record crowds flock to the stadium. In particular the 2021 MLB Home Run Derby saw the Mets Pete Alonso capture his second straight derby title.

Ichiro Suzuki collected his 3,000th hit in 2016 during a game between the Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies.

The 2007 season saw the Rockies make the franchises only World Series Appearance in which the stadium hosted 2 games against the American League Champions, Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox ended up sweeping the Rockies and captured the title in game 4 at Coors Field.

What to see inside the Stadium

Coors Field is filled with a great game day atmosphere for all to enjoy. The Rooftop is a popular choice for fans coming the game. Open to all fans with tickets at the game, the Rooftop is a standing room party deck located in the upper deck of right field of the stadium.

The SandLot Brewery. This brewery which opened in 1995, was the first brewery located inside an MLB stadium. The Brewery has won many awards for their beer and continue to brew more each year. This is a popular destination for game day fans as the brewery opens 90 minutes before first pitch.

The Coors Field Garden in Center field. Located just beyond center field, this 600 foot sustainable garden is one of the many wonders within the park. The first of it’s kind within stadiums, this garden is maintained and designed to mimic a small baseball diamond with its structure and plants within.

Along with those above, be on the lookout for markers indicating where in the stadium is 1 mile high above sea level. Coors Field and Denver itself is not shy about the fact that they are the mile high city and the field sure does take it to heart.

What to Eat

Coors Field is filled with great options for food! From the local favorites to unique fares, you will have a tough time sorting through what to get for yourself, and to be honest you can’t really go wrong.

My personal favorite from our time at Coors Field is Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs located sections 107 and 331. It was one of the best food choices of any stadium fare we have had the opportunity to eat. We chose the Elk Jalapeño Cheddar Dog topped with cream cheese and grilled onions. Absolutely delicious!

Some other great options are smash burgers for delicious burgers, Burrito Stand for some made to order burritos and bowls, and Famous Dave’s for some exceptional BBQ.

Where To Sit

Coors Field is a great sport to see any game as there really aren’t any bad seats in the house. From every section of the ballpark you will have a great unobstructed view of the field. The stadium is comprised of 63 luxury seats and 4,526 club seats.

For a view of the Rockies in the distance sections 110-115, 201-208, and the rooftop offer amazing views of the mountains especially during night games when the sunsets. If that’s not your vibe, center field is an amazing sport to see the whole stadium and have a birds eye of the field.
